Why is this mod based on Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory?First, ET is a free game. That means you don't have to pay a cent to be able to play the mod. Second, ET is based on a highly developed Q3 engine. It offers superb graphics features and an outstanding mission scripting system. Together with the rich community developed tools like q3map2 (link, ydnar you rule) this seems a solid basis for a free game. TC:E tries to make use of these features, while it totally converts the game to a modern warfare environment.
ET is based on Q3, which is quite an old engine, can it compete with modern engines? It certainly misses many graphics features new engines offer. But rest assured, an ET based game can offer tremendously rich graphics with high quality textures. And it is rock solid, offers punkbuster support, and has excellent scalability even on low end systems.
Is TC:E set in the WW2 environment like ET?No. TC:E is a total conversion mod in a contemporary, modern environment. Except for the look of the UI, TC:E has nothing to do with ET. It's an entirely new game.
Is TC:E a realism shooter?Yes. TC:E is a fast-paced, gameplay oriented team shooter with very realistic elements. For example, the maps, weapons, and locations look very realistic. Of course some elements have to trade off between realism and gameplay. The damage of the weapons and the movement capabilities of the characters are not quite a true simulation. On the other hand, comparing TC:E to other games that are known as realism shooters, you would certainly say TC:E is very realistic -- this is no arcade.
Will the teams have different equipment?Yes, both teams will have access to different weapons. Some weapons are available to both teams. Nevertheless, the equipment is carefully balanced to ensure equal opportunities for both teams.
What gametypes will be supported? Will there be respawning?Like ET, TC:E will offer scriptable, objective based missions. However, the first round of TC:E maps are designed for a Demolition (Bomb/Defuse) scenario. Players will always be limited to one life in order to ensure serious team tactics in mission mode. As a fun mode, TC:E will offer the Bodycount gametype which is a classical team deathmatch gametype available for all maps.
What weapons can be expected? There will be a whole bunch of real-world weapons including sidearms (AMT Hardballer, Beretta 92, Glock 19, Desert Eagle .50), submachine guns (Mac10, Mp5, UMP45), shotguns (M3 Super 90), assault rifles (M4, AK-47), and sniper rifles (PSG-1, M76, R93). TC:E will also offer three types of hand grenades, a fragmentation grenade (M67), a smoke grenade (M83) and a stun grenade (XM84).
Will there be a one-shot kill? With a well aimed shot, a sniper will be able to kill with a single round. However, sniper rifles will not be run and hit weapons. A well placed shot requires a certain amount of time and a well trained sniper, of course!
TC:E will use high-resolution graphics. Is it designed for high-end systems only?In comparison to ET, TC:E doubles the standard texture resolution to 512*512 pixels. In addition, the maps will have 6000-8000 polys on average and 12000-15000 polys max. This does mean that people that have state-of-the-art hardware can actually use its power. However, the ET/Q3 engine is so scalable that low-end users don't have to suffer. TC:E is developed to still run on 32MB-Geforce256 and mobile 16MB-Geforce2Go systems.
Will TC:E replace the current TC for Q3, or will it continue the old TC 0.45 era? Is this TC 0.50?Neither. TC:E is an offspring of Q3 TC, not a replacement. People that followed the development of TC based on Q3 over the years will certainly realize similar roots in some features -- they will feel at home with part of TC:E, but they will be surprised with the new. TC:E is a new game on a new engine. We hope, of course, that members of the great Q3 TC community will enjoy TC:E.
